Thanks so much, Pete. So you used the original Lionel headlight platform?  I will have to research on here your method of the headlight lens.

I did keep the original platform primarily because of the number plate and emblem. To make a lens I just measure the diameter of the opening. Then find a drill bit with the same diameter. Chuck it up in drill press or drill motor backwards and file, sand, and polish the back end to an acceptable radius. Then find a piece of steel or brass at least 1/8" thick and drill a clean hole in it with that same drill. Reverse the drill and start punching out lenses.

Thank you.  I'm not sure I understand where the clear lens part actually comes from?? Or are you using the Lionel lens and making it fit?  Sorry, just not following.  That said, have any for sale??

Was the Lionel headlight fixture attached by a screw or will I need to use the Dremel to remove it?

Thanks again, Pete.

Larry, I just use some bubble wrap for the lens material  if its clear and smooth enough. You will have cut the headlight off the platform. When I did this I bought a spare 5444 headlight to sacrifice. You may want to hold off until you see if Lionel will have spares for your engine. Another option is get the 5444 headlight and renumber it for your engine.
