Press Release: The Michigan & Great Lakes suspends operations and plans to rebuild

June 10, 2019

The Michigan and Great Lakes reports that it has suspended all operations at 5pm local time today.  They have filed to abandon their current line.    A spokesperson for the railroad states; "The 1/2 mile line is just too big for our operations and we plan to scale back".  Investors for the company have complained that the railroad seems to only go in circles and only pulls empty cars.

Company President made a statement right after the layoffs were announced: "at Michigan and Great Lakes RR, we strive to be the most efficient railroad, and we will rebuild.  We have plans to build a 2 track mainline, but have much smaller operations.  Maybe 1/8th of a mile would suite us better.  We really can move freight from Point A to Point A easier and make many more trips per day. "

Several people were on hand as #40 passed by the depot light on its way into storage.

Stay tuned for progress on the rebuild here: New Layout Build Thread
