Problem with Lionel GP-30 locos

Thanks for those who responded to my previous post about my two Lionel GP-30 locos which stutter along with an occasional spurt. Both responders suggested there was a problem with the magnetic ring(s). After checking them , the rings were in proper position and intact. Any other suggestions??
