Peter, do you think the loose base pan was the root of your evil?....I’ve taken these type gear boxes before and tapped them to 3-48 thread, and slightly countersink the base pan ( or bottom cover...whatever you’d like to call it ) and use a flat head screw....Ace hardware keeps 3-48 screws....
