Reply to "Process for systematic update of all my DCS remotes and TIUs?"

Thanks, E-Joe.

Understanding that there is extra cost in adding one WIU per TIU, is there some simplicity in using my iPhone or iPad with the deluxe DCS app instead of DCS remotes, in terms of not needing to do all the remote updates?  I see that the app can handle locomotive consists, and looks like relatively simple to set them up.  Don't believe Lionel's app can do this.  I like the simplicity of the Lionel LionChief app (and the small size of my iPhone in my hand) for what it can handle.  And what about the issue of having to add locomotives to each remote (to one, and then clone to others?) vs. just using the app--will the app "find" locomotives on track without "adding" them first, as required with the remote?

Any wise head who has played with DCS WiFi who can advise on some of these basic pros and cons will be appreciated.

Re: TIU's, do TIU software updates have to be step by step from one update to the next, or can I install the latest version over whatever earlier version is on a TIU?  Once that is done can then place each TIU into Super TIU mode, I believe?  Looks like this last step can be done through the smartphone/pad app.

Does using the app save time now and for future updates, over having to update regular DCS remotes?

Lots of questions....Just beginning to read DCS WiFi Companion 2nd Edition, and re-read DCS Companion 3rd Ed.

Thanks
