Reply to "Process for systematic update of all my DCS remotes and TIUs?"

"is there some simplicity in using my iPhone or iPad with the deluxe DCS app instead of DCS remotes, in terms of not needing to do all the remote updates? "

If you have the remotes, you should update them so they are usuable. If you don't, it can cause issues if/when you try them.

"I see that the app can handle locomotive consists, and looks like relatively simple to set them up. "

It is easy to use the pro app and build consists.

"what about the issue of having to add locomotives to each remote (to one, and then clone to others?"

You can clone from one master remote. I've read that you can also send this to the app?

"vs. just using the app--will the app "find" locomotives on track without "adding" them first, as required with the remote?"

You still add the engines to the device (if not cloned). It does seem easier and faster to add to the app than the remote.

"do TIU software updates have to be step by step from one update to the next, or can I install the latest version over whatever earlier version is on a TIU? "

no, you can go directly to the newest update (after DCS 2.X? I believe). Only the oldest versions need to be brought forward first (to 3.x) I can't remember the exact versions right now. I'll look it up.

"Does using the app save time now and for future updates, over having to update regular DCS remotes?"

The app will update itself over the internet when connected. No cords or holding the remote's power button!
