Protosound 3.0 Problem

Greetings all,

I just purchased an MTH Dash-8 Diesel with Protosound 3.0 (MTH #20-20374-1) at a local train show.
The locomotive works with a conventional MTH controller but when I try to hook it up to an MTH DCS remote commander (which I prefer) it does nothing. I also have a MTH DCS Commander but would prefer not connecting that yet since I don't have a permanent table layout yet but, if I have to I will.

I can set the switch inside the loco to DCC and Protosound 3.0 comes on but the loco doesn't move which I gathered is to be expected.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
