Just out of curiosity, and since I'm a complete MTH layman, and neophyte...

Is there a significant advantage to be had by upgrading to PS3, instead of PS2? Is it something as simple as parts availability? Or perhaps newer, updated sounds and operating qualities were realized with PS3? Is PS2 more likely than PS3 to go poof, and release its magic smoke due to age, design, or 3 vs 5 (or vice versa) operating voltages?

I'm seeing quite a few PS1/2 items being exhumed from basement corners, dusted off, and presented at sometimes astronomical asking prices now that "MTH is closing induced mania" is peaking....
