PS3 Loco Tender Connection Fail

I seem to be losing the connection between my steamer and its tender. It's an MTH PS3 M1 steam loco. The steamer runs fine, then stops and shuts down unexpectedly. As soon as I add pressure to the connector at the tender, it immediately starts right up. The connection doesn't seem to be coming apart by much, but maybe that's a reflection of my poor eyesight. I don't feel a click when I try to reseat it. I've also cleaned the connection with electrical contact cleaner. Does this happen often with these connections, and is there an easy fix.
