I tried lobbying Scott for the C&O cars several years ago. Then Covid hit and the effort stalled. The C&O grossly over ordered new passenger cars after WWII so much so that they cancelled a lot of them and sold many to other railroads without ever turning a wheel on the C&O. They were scattered amongst so many railroads that they were as close to a generic passenger car as possible. With the Capital Limited and now The Prospector being offered, 3rd Rail will have all the cars needed to produce C&O, D&H, and NKP trains plus various cars for other railroads that had these in their fleets.
The Prospector consist announced:
- RPO- sold by C&O to Rio Grande before used by C&O. One later sold to D&H
- Baggage - sold by C&O to Rio Grande before used by C&O. Three later sold to D&H
- Combine - one retained by C&O, two sold to Rio Grande.
- Coach - many retained by the C&O. Eight sold to Rio Grande, then five of them sold to D&H. 10 were directly ordered by the NKP of which six became N&W and four were sold to ACL (later SCL)
- Diner Lounge -one retained by C&O, two sold to Rio Grande, then one later sold to D&H
- Sleeper - many retained by C&O, four sold to Rio Grande although the RG rearranged the interior layout somewhat. C&O also sold these to the B&O and IC. NKP directly ordered 13 which in turn were later sold to IC and CN
- Dome Observation - Three originally intended for The Chessie and after the train was cancelled these were put to use on the C&O's Pere Marquette district until all were sold to the Rio Grande.
