Putting Directional lighting in Post-War Lionel DT&I 8111 Switcher

This is a no frills switcher. No E-Unit. Just a SPDT switch with a lever that sticks up through the top. You want to go forward you move the lever forward. You want to go backward, well, you get the idea. I thought that I would jazz it up a bit and put directional lighting in front and rear. How is this done?
