Question on Polar Express

I slightly remember a problem being discussed with the front truck pick up of the PE. At a show last week, I had some intermittent problems near switches - which we deduced as a combination of dirty track and improper track attachment (the joiner rode on top of the rail, not around it).

Should I look for anything, or just assume they were the problem?
