@Bogart - Those are great photos! I didn't know they had public tours down there. I'll have to check that out sometime.

The Amtrak facility in Beech Grove did indeed belong to the New York Central, but they inherited from the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad -- also known as the Big Four Railroad. They were headquartered in the Chesapeake Building downtown at 105 S. Meridian St., which is now a Hampton Inn.

Yes, the Big Four was BIG in Indiana! My former boss's father worked for them. I'm not sure public tours are really in the offing at Beech Grove. This was a special 20 person tour that the NMRA took months to get arranged and then it was almost cancelled as new Amtrak management came on board who hadn't been aware of the commitment already made. But if you ever get the chance get on board ASAP. The NMRA convention in Indianapolis had over 500 people show up and many were very disappointed that this tour was booked.
