Most of the LIRR trains are 10-12 cars. Some of the smaller branches will run shorter trains but if they wind up moving equipment to a different branch then they need to add cars. These are M7's. All of the cars are always run as pairs, they have cab controls at each end.
Funny thing is that even with 12 cars you may not get a seat......
