I have about 300 railroad books in our library, and by far my favorite is one already mentioned, Set Up Running by Jack Orr. A magnificent description of life as an engineer on the Pennsy in the steam era.

For New England railroads, R W Nimke wrote about two dozen landmark books documenting the history and operations of Vermont and Connecticut roads.
