Thanks John - interesting. I appreciate the extra effort on my behalf.

Two items that seem to confirm that the issue lies with the new 12VDC power supply:

I tested new my smoke unit with an identical older MW supply - runs great and makes smoke.
That older power supply produces 12.03 VDC.

I am awaiting an RMA for the new unit.
