Remove chassis on American Flyer 655

Hello,

I have 2 American Flyer 655 passenger cars that I would like to take apart and replace the paper/plastic inside with some silhouettes.

There are no screws on the bottom, just 4 metal pieces that stick out the metal chassis on the bottom.

What is the best way to remove the chassis without damaging anything?
