I have many repaints, steam and diesel; too many to post. Here are 2 off-the-wall examples.
Two Lionel cheapies, but I like them; the GM&O was done ages ago, even before Lionel offered the "JC Penney" (I think) GM&O RS-3.
My early weathering job on the GM&O unit was, ah, intense, shall we say. I still like it, though, if only for nostalgia reasons. The L&N was done only about 5 years ago. Both are accurate paint schemes.
These Lionel RS-3's are really good enough to add proper fuel tanks and close up/frame-mount the pilots. I can live with the handrails - not too thick on these. Add an ERR Commander (cruise commander, maybe?) after the above tank/pilot "improvements" and off you go. The coupler mounts are "non-standard", so adding remote couplers would not be a drop-in situation, but not tragically difficult.
