And finally, service notes from the manual:

bmoran4,

Thanks for posting this.  In my opinion it's a (very?) rare example of a nicely detailed description posted in a Lionel owner's manual.  I'm pleasantly surprised.

A little constructive criticism for Lionel, with the best of intentions along the way:  When you get to the point where you've read hundreds of them over the years you realize that they are usually operationally useful, so at least you can get started with using the product.  But they very often do not go into enough detail to be technically useful.  Then again the situation is too often compounded by the presence of incorrect information that wasn't caught in the review process before publication.

To be fair this is not an unusual situation.  Have you tried reading your car's owner's manual?  Whether your car is a classic or brand new, its manual will also usually come up short.  In spite of being over 200 pages mine can't tell me how to reset my car's oil-change-needed warning message after an oil change.

These characteristics leave too many people who read manuals with more questions than answers afterward.

Conversely, this subway car example is unusually well written for Lionel, primarily because it carries the kind of extra detail that many people would like to see in an owner's manual, but that is most often missing.

My thanks, to the unnamed person who wrote it, for a job well done.

Mike
