replacing MTH Proto 1 F3 number board light question?

My Proto 1 MTH F3 needs a new number board light. Took off the shell and the cab light, headlight and number board lights are all connected. Assuming I have to replace the whole lighting string. Has anyone done this repair? Can I just replace the one light which is out?
