Restoring Baldwin Drivers Pre/Postwar

For all the invaluable knowledge I have found on this forum, I have never seen this topic discussed. A friend gave me his 1946 Lionel 726 Loco. It's in rough shape, but very restorable. I'm pretty secure with all it will take to do the job, but I have never disassembled Baldwin Disc drivers and their nickel wheels. Is there anyone out there who can provide some guidance? I'd like to bring the discs and nickel "tires" back to their original color and finish. I don't think I'll need to remove the axles. I'd really love to get them "back to black" Any advice?
