It's actually kinda' normal for the Seuthe units to pop at times, especially right after you apply power. If it's smoking more than normal, it may be on it's way out.

I don't know which voltage unit they use in the Right of Way caboose, I have some of the 6V Seuthe units that are used in Weaver, Williams, and 3rd Rail brass locomotives.
