Ross switches and 180 watt power bricks and wiring.

I have 2 tracks each powered with a 180 watt brick on each .The 2 are connected by the switches .I didnot put the pin in the center rail to divide them. In the old days this worked fine . Why is it tripping the breaker on the brick when a engine goes threw the switches.
