I would not read anything into the comments on how they are going to approach S. I wonder if even they know at this point. They probably have an idea but that is about it.
Besides since they are competing in the HO and N business they are dealing with 85% or close of the Model Railroad market not 85% of S.
If I had to guess, it would be the original SHS format and similar to AM. A standard DCC plug that you can plug anything you want into it. Not sure about AC, but there will be a DC shunt plug. And if you want Legacy, you just buy the board and plug it in. Finally everybody wins – goodbye proprietary systems!!! I distained having to buy the extra electronics only to rip out the boards.
