Smoke settings via command

It’s been a while fussing with Lionel smoke units. A couple of questions.

1) can light smoke output be caused by AC Reg that didn’t experience major failure?

2) Do changes in smoke settings under command stay active when switching back to conventional mode.

3) Fan Rotation direction?
