Reply to "Smoke unit thermistor - what ohm rating?"

I  appreciate this thread.  A few years ago I purchased Lionel 85211 and 95214  Legacy Reading F-3's.  A and B units all smoke as well as a super bass B unit.  During the first year, the A unit suddenly began pouring out acrid smoke and I shut off power immediately.  The  smoke fan impeller was melted and jammed.  Under warrenty, Lionel replaced both the smoke unit and RCMD board in this engine.  In the past year, two of the other Reading F-3's have suffered smoke unit failures and as time went on, other issues such as couplers that would not stop firing.  I have gotten confused in ordering replacement smoke units with thermistors  as parts numbers  and revision numbers vary among different Legacy F-3's.  A few weeks ago I returned two RCMD boards to Lionel for testing (the trains still ran), but no smoke.  I ended  up with two new boards.  One engine now smokes fine but the other results in two blinks of the warning light indicating something  wrong with the smoke resistor.  It seems like the latest smoke unit for these engines is 680-2771-200.  Has Lionel figured this out by now and can I hope that this $65 complete new smoke unit might end these issues and saved future RCMD board failures.  I  have seriously considered selling these engines on ebay for parts.  But when working as they should, an ABBA set with all units pouring out smoke and the Super Bass roaring makes it all worthwhile for this Reading fan.  Phil
