I ended up after much thought, grinding stuff down flat and cramming it in there! I made a shim or gasket out of thick plastic to surround the boilers smoke outputs and guide the smoke. I grinded an area out so that a MTH smoke unit could slide in there. I will seal it up later. After much work, it's about done!
I had to fire it up to check my wiring and sound so far. I don't have the tether and receptacle yet. I forgot that the board is from an upgrade kit and did not have any sounds loaded. Then I remembered something else. I have a G scale boiler from a Challenger that is unpainted but factory complete. I decided to give it a shot. I installed that board set into this Challenger and the battery. It fired right up! That's a pleasant surprise for me!
