For purposes here, let's just say this was not a required stop.
The P&W runs under the wire on the NE Corridor from NYC to Boston Switch in RI. Servicing the industries on the NE Corridor is a well choreographed exercise as one can not hold up an Acela, and if you do it is a very bad thing.
Four locations for originating jobs on the P&W are Worcester MA, Valley Falls RI, New Haven and Plainfield CT. The Plainfield location services a large Dow chemical plant on the CT River. Never should switch out cars on the fly at that location - but that's another story for another day.
