Looking at the speaker can't tell you if its bad as Pat said if the speaker winding shorts to ground the audio chip WILL blow!

Try another speaker new! if sounds returns you got lucky! don't forget the audio chip can be damaged from a derailment or track short even if the speaker was ok!
