DIFFERENT ISSUE!

Thank you John, George and Marty for the suggestions. I was able to get a replacement sensor from George and installed it in the engine. The engine accelerated more smoothly but the sounds would go from one rev level to the next and then back down again in 2 to 4 second intervals but it did not look like the engine was speeding up or slowing down. I put another earlier model PS2 diesel - a UP H1044 switcher - on the track with it and ran the two at the same time. When the remote stated the B&O E6 was running at 15 scale MPH, the H1044 was running at 30 scale MPH and all the while the E6 rev level was going up and down and up etc., but it did maintain a constant speed with relation to the H1044.

Any one have an idea as to what would cause this problem?
