'Star' wiring question.....

I'm building a 10 x 25 platform with 3 separate 'lines' with some cross-overs. I have tons of 'conventional' Lionel but am moving into remote control with both Lionel and MTH. Because of the remote inputs I'm told to keep power consistent by breaking each 'line' into somewhere around 10 foot segments and to make sure that the '+' line and the '-' line are of equal length.

Here's my question: does the 'equal '+' and '-' count just for each segment (one segment could be 20 feet from the power source and another might be 5 feet from the power source) OR does EVERY segment need to have the '+' and '-' wires being equal length?
