As I think about my switch to S scale, I see plenty of diesels to fill my small roster. It's actually already filled with the six road names with a nice selection to choose from with all being scale wheels. What I don't see are good steam engines, I need three Richmond 4-4-0 in the MA&PA #4,5,6. One Alco 2-6-0 in the DL&W #565, a Alco 4-4-0 rebuilt by the DL&W shops as #978 and a Alco 2-8-0 in DL&W as #799.
All need to have smoke units with DCC sound, where do you S guys buy steam engines with scale wheels. I am also looking to add some 2-8-2, 4-6-0, and maybe some big 2-8-4, 4-8-2 or 4-8-4. I am asking all of you that's been in S scale, where do I look. I found River Raisin Brass, one of there steam engines is $2600 without DCC/sound, that's more than a O scale two rail brass engine from 3rd rail.
The AF legacy berkshires are nice engines, but no scale wheels. Between American Models and MTH for freight cars, I have plenty to choose from. S scale needs some nice small steam engines.....!
