Stripping paint from an old kit built model

Hello Forumites....I'm thinking of stripping (several coats) an old Walthers passenger car ....kit built. I have used alcohol with success by total immersion on metal models, but worry about a wood and metal kit......will the soaking have an adverse affect? Some here have used Easy Off oven cleaner. Any thoughts or other suggestions will be appreciated. thanks, Tom
