Suggestions for inexpensive locomotive? (new or used)

Hello. New here. My Dad gave me his 1951-ish 2046 Hudson set years ago which I'd like to give a rest. I also have a Polar Express set from about 10 or so years ago. Over the years, I've picked up a dozen or so pieces of rolling stock (mostly MPC era) that I'd like to run. I don't have DCC, etc. but have a figure 8 Fast Track set incoming. Just something simple, don't need sound. Smoke would be nice, preferably steam but I am open to diesel. Is it possible to get anything decent for < $100?
