The one with the worm is the defective motor. The one on the right is the replacement that shows on the Lionel support website

Either someone changed the truck or the stock number is wrong. Pull the other motor out and see if it has a gear. If it does then the engine stock number is wrong.

Here is the engine box and shell for reference. Stock number is correct, and the trucks look to be factory

Double check the parts diagram you are using. These two motors are from different engines.

I got the motors directly from the Lionel support website with the exact part number shown on the box
