Reply to "Switcher Saturday: 2017-Mar-11"

My Atlas O model of Union Pacific SW9 diesel switcher locomotive 1875 is shown below with a K-Line model of UP wood caboose 3592.

The Electro-Motive Division of General Motors produced 786 SW9 locomotives between 1951 and 1953. They were equipped with an EMD 567B 12-cylinder engine which developed 1200 horsepower.

The EMD SW switcher was one of the first locomotive models made by Atlas O. It was first offered in 2001 and has subsequently been offered in many road names. I think this model was produced some years after that. When I returned to O gauge railroading 20 years ago, I began to purchase locomotives and rolling stock from many railroads – I bought whatever looked good and was interesting. Eventually, for reasons of cost and space, I became more selective and now limit my buying to New Haven Railroad and Amtrak prototypes. So, this UP model has never been run but occupies a prominent position on the shelf over my workbench. The old K-line caboose is an excellent model, too.

Have a good Switcher Saturday.
