Inside an Atlas SW9

Been eyeing a couple of these switchers without the TMCC electronics with the intention to upgrade them with ERR components.  How's the performance of these horizontal motored Atlas types under CC?  The horizontal layout seems to be preferred method nowadays, like on 3rd Rail engines.

The Atlas SW horizontal drive has been around since 1998/99.  Without more modern speed control, they operate well at slow switcher speeds and back and forth.  Early models had Dallee electronics that were poor.  As pictured with TMCC controls they operate well.

Edit/Add:  Biggest problem with an upgrade to the way the Atlas SW's  are today is relocation of the speaker in the fuel tank.  A time consuming project.

Thanks for the reply!  Judging from the pics an ERR upgrade will take up much less room inside the shell.  It might give just enough room up front for mounting a 1 1/4" cube speaker in there as well, which would save modding the fuel tank.  If you are happy with it under TMCC then ERR should really take it to the next level of performance.  Hopefully I get to test that out if the deal on the switchers happens.
