Reply to "Switcher Saturday 5-14-22"

Fall of '64...

KC&G NW2 #136 trundles along in the Riverfront District on the Missouri side of Kansas City as it goes about its business of switching the customers therein as the "Day Job". (The Night Job has the dubious moniker of being called the "Alley Cat", but no such nickname has yet stuck to the Day Job.)

Both jobs that work the Riverfront District are real "beans n' taters" jobs. Nothing glamorous about them. Both jobs mainly run about among the buildings in the Riverfront District switching the various docks, doors and what have you, all in the effort of trying to help the KC&G make a living on the steel rails of commerce.

No, working a lowly switch job like either the Day Job or the Alley Cat, there's no "romance of the high iron", or any such thing. However, you get to sleep in your own bed every time you finish your shift, so it takes lots of whiskers to hold such a job... the Day Job more so than the Alley Cat.
