Most are made from weeds I picked near home in the late fall. They are bundled together to form the basic tree with floral tape wrapped around the trunk holding them together. The branches are then trimmed a bit.  The brown buds On them  become the leaves. They are Then sprayed heavily with rattle can paint. I just pick fall like colors. The tedious part is painting out the individual branches with a brush a grayish black. It’s the only way I have found to give an airy look like a fall tree. The will shed buds if you lean up against them. Many have been on the layout for at least 15 years.
