I don't think its necessarily the look you should be after but accessibility and ability to work on the layout. I find the visual height of trains running and viewing scenery for me personally would be around 5' however with sloped ceilings in my room it would be nearly impossible to do without wasting a lot of time and space.

My only one complaint about L girder construction is 42" finished bench height less 4" for joists and a 4" L girder leaves only 36" underneath. Fortunately 95% of layout is accessible from the top.
