I have a few spots on my 16' by 20' layout that are 1" foam on 12" plywood. The rest has an additional 1/2 " ceiling tile layer and is much quieter than just foam. I use Fastrack and can run trains at 20 to 25 SMPH with sounds set at 50 to 60% with hardly any track noise.
