The reason I used Homasote was for it's sound deadening qualities, it does a much better job than construction foam. Just take a piece of construction foam (blue or pink) and a piece of Homasote and tap on it. The difference is obvious. That also translates into quieter running so I can hear the neat sound systems I paid so much for.
