I too found myself in a similar situation because I am building multi-level. My solution if needed will be to build a 2x4 or 2x6 framework on the floor of any viewing area. cover with plywood and maybe carpet squares for a step-up platform. Too high is better than too low.
I intend to use Homasote over 3/4 ply on table-top; however, after GRJ's recent comments considering his sound deadening mat, that is only a few MM thick; I may place a layer between Homasote and plywood.
