One of my engineers lamented to me that back when the N&W still had Position Light signals, meaning each light was Cadmium Yellow in color, it was bad running in fog. Not because you couldn't see the signal. That was not the problem. The problem was when running on an approach signal you couldn't tell what the next signal was as the fog made it appear as a big blotch of yellow until you got very close. This made it bad when holding the main line meeting a train and being able to tell when the next signal went clear from a distance. He was more than glad when the N&W went to Color Position Light signals!
