A model is not the real thing.  But I did see the Lionel model of NYC 6019 today.  The tender seems it had mostly coal, with little room for water.  Wander how often they had to scoop for water?

Actually quite often, as the plan was not to "fill" the tender with water at each track pan, but to replenish the water very often. Thus, between New York (Harmon) and Chicago, only coal was taken on at Cleveland, Ohio, while water was "scooped" very often.
