Just had to comment. To me this engine, although very similar to the 5011 Class, has some great features that set it apart. Read the article by Gary Schrader and you will see why he took the effort to build one for himself.
Two obvious things stick out to me.
1. The option of a coal fired version. Accoring to Worley, they lasted to '48. That means two tender choices coal or oil, both different from the 5011 Class.
2. The outside bearing lead engine truck, which I think is great looking, adding nice detail.
I've own 2- 3rd rail 5011's and one MTH version. I like them all, but the 3rd Rail version is superior. Another thing is that 3rd Rail Santa Fe engines have improved greatly over the years and if they did a 5001 Class 2-10-4, it will outclass the 5011 they did early in the 2000's.
