Before you do,

Are you getting a lot of out of range messages on the remote?

Is your TIU placed well? Is the top facing the remote? ( mounted stood upwards)

Are both transponder boards in the TIU and the remote well seated?

I did drill a hole in my first TIU and put the wire out. I have four different TIUs now and never needed to do that again. I only have one dead spot in the basement and if I turn slightly the remote works well.
