My laptop is corrupted somewhere and I'm not willing to put in the effort to discover where.

So, it now appears that you believe that the culprit is your laptop/Windows combination, which you now believe is corrupt.

Perhaps you might want to re-think your earlier statement:

"The issue is if a company (in this case MTH) is going to sell a product which they claim to be able to be used by a PC running MS Windows, it is then incumbent upon them to mention what drivers are needed to make their product work!"

Do you still believe that this is an MTH-created problem or, just maybe, that it could much more be a problem that's pretty much unique to subset of "corrupted" PC's, yours included?
