I was thinking maybe a narrow passage up against an outer wall with a photo or painted backdrop in front of it, just long enough to hide a train. The backdrop would be scenery of a sort. If you can stage stuff in another room, that would be even better. There is an interesting thread that would relate to this idea, on hiding a hole in the backdrop on the Scenery and Structures Forum:
