First, it's TIU not AIU.

Second, he possibly had (ands still has) a loose transceiver board in either the TIU, remote or both. Operating with the remote and TIU tethered (connected) would have turned. that up in short order. I have difficulty believing that MTH support didn't suggest that almost immediately.
